Galician translation for XOOPS 2.3 is ready

The Galician translation of XOOPS 2.3.x, made by Eduar Garza (http://www.xeral.net/), is now available for download.

Thanks to Eduar who spend his time to make Galician translation available for The XOOPS Project.

Dave Porter in his 2009 Web Predictions mentions XOOPS as one of the three Open Source projects where web developers are moving to for running their Web sites:

The open source community thrived in 2008 and AXcess News predicts that in 2009 the web will go through an "open source revolution" of sorts. We credit much of that to Google's browser and how mobile providers have been going down on one knee to adapt it. Mobile computing is one area where open source has attracted more developers, probably due to the popularity of mobile web activity. Mobile internet access is a big part of 2009's growth market, though more of the web development community is shifting to the popular content management systems offered by Drupal, Joomla and Xoops for running websites.

Welcome to the first issue of WOX (World of XOOPS) Newsletter in 2009 (see here previous versions)

First of all, we would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year 2009!!!!!

We have ended 2008 on a very exciting note - XOOPS China Won OSSContest Award, a very prestigious award of the Chinese software industry. This is definitely a great achievement for XOOPS China, and XOOPS in general, and all XOOPSers all over the world can be very proud of it!

Other highlights of the month:

XOOPS Innovation Award - for people who create something very unique and innovative for XOOPS. This time the award goes to Hong Kai Wu (tad) from XOOPS Taiwan for his work on of X School System!! Hong Kai Wu is also author of the "Easy Creation of Websites with XOOPS"
XOOPSer of the Month Award: is given to XOOPS members who show extraordinary dedication to XOOPS, and go the extra mile for XOOPS. This month we would like to recognize: Sushang Yang (ezsky), the Webmaster of XOOPS China Website. It's the Webmasters of XOOPS local support sites who make the difference for all the people who don't speak English, and is sometimes their only entry to the wonderful world of XOOPS.

OlÃ©drion 2.0 - the e-Commerce module for Xoops by Instant Zero

XOOPS China Wins OSSContest Award

The XOOPS China team has won a prestigious award at the 2008 China Open Source Software Contest (OSSContest) in Beijing.

XOOPS China won the main award for excellence in creative application. The award will be accepted by Taiwen Jiang, the XOOPS Lead Developer and his team at the 2008 Open Source Software Development Summit, China. It is the latest recognition for the XOOPS China community website and project development.

The Summit will take place at the Xiyuan Hotel in Beijing, on Jan 13, 2009. Its steering committee is composed of Chinaâs Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), National High Tech R&D Program (863 Program) and China Software Industry Association (CSIA).

The conference and the OSSContest is organized by Co-Create Software League of CSIA and Chinese Association of Software Parks (CASP)of China Association for Science and Technology Industrial Parks (ChinaASTIP).

Zhanyuan Du, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Chris Lin, SUNâs president for Great China, and Zhaozhu Liang, R&D Chief Officer of Intel Asia Pacific R&D, among others, will be the keynote speakers at the conference.

As the Chinese government plans to spend several billion of RMB on âcore electronic components, high-end interchangeable chip, and fundamental software productsâ in 2009, open source software projects face new opportunities in China.

XOOPS China is delighted to be recognized in the contest and is committed to continued excellence and support for XOOPS and Open Source. This award is also a tribute to the dedication of many people from around the world who have contributed to the XOOPS Project.

XOOPS Time Capsule

Well some of you may already do this with your development in creating a time capsule. This is one for XOOPS that will be sealed at the 1st of march.

The dimension of the cylinder is as so

360mm(h) x 145mm(d)

It is water proof and will be placed in a remote location away from any nuclear targets and is good for a millennium as the plastics in the container.

Should you wish as a member of our community to contribute, I would suggest you mail me a flash disk, or mail me a sealed letter. Your contribution will not be logged nor will the flash discs be recorded, it will be simply added to the chamber of all goodies for the XOOPS time capsule.

I think we should do one of these each year around different parts of the world, who know we could exist elsewhere beyond our reaches as foresight see it.

* any xoops related digital media (flash disc).
* letter in envelope
* NO HDDS

eXtGallery 1.0.5 is out

Zoullou has just released a new version of eXtGallery. From his Website:

Very Green Grass theme

Free, simple and Xoops 2.3.2 compatible Very Green Grass theme for xoops. It is based on my custom theme used for one of Xoops based sites, which ran successfuly for more than 3 years. The site is beeing shut down, so this is my another small tribute for open-source movement.
